Research Staff
John L

Dr. Jonathan Lowenson

Ph.D., University of California, Los Angeles

Jon studies the accumulation of damaged aspartyl residues in aging proteins and their repair in mammalian tissues.
Ph.D. Students
Kanishk Jain

B.S., Chemistry,
University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA
Kanishk's work is focused on understanding the functional mechanisms of protein arginine methyltransferases (PRMTs). He is most interested in how these enzymes are involved in epigenetic regulation and what drives their catalysis biochemically.

Rebeccah Warmack

B.S. Biotechnology;
Technology Management minor, UC Davis

Rebeccah studies compensatory mechanisms that prevent the age-related accumulation of L-isoaspartate within proteins, and the biochemical and structural consequences of failures in this repair.

Jonelle White

B.S. Chemistry,
State University of New York at Albany

Jonelle's work focuses on characterizing the functional implications of elongation factor 1 alpha (EF1A) methylation, a GTP activated protein involved in the elongation step of protein synthesis. Using Saccharomyces cerevisiae as her model system she will investigate how the methylation of EF1A affects its role in protein synthesis and its involvement with the actin cytoskeleton.
