Most postdocs recommend staying first in a hotel nearby campus and then find an apartment through Westside Rentals.
The most widely used hotel nearby is The Claremont Hotel - Single: $60.00 +14% sales tax (one double bed for one guest)
Another option is a weekly rental hotel. Westside Rentals manages several. Two of the post popular with UCLA postdocs are Hotel Colorado and Ocean Park Hotel in Santa Monica. Both are convenient to UCLA bus lines. While they are not fancy they are in nice neighborhoods close to many restaurants and shops. Hotel Colorado is within walking distance to the beach, the popular Third Street Promenade and Santa Monica Pier. Ocean Park Hotel is located across the street from an attractive business park and adjacent to a residential neighborhood. There are several nice restaurants, coffee shops & banks nearby.
